Finding Your Way Around

Every adventure puts the same frame around its content: a few controls in the top corners of the screen, a menu, and a taskbar along the bottom. Learn them once and you can find your way around any adventure you join.

Where You Start: the Journey or the Garden

If your adventure has a Garden as well as a Journey, you choose which one you land on when you come in. The first time you open the Journey it asks once — Where should we start you? — with two options: The Journey (the map, your milestones and what is unlocked next) or The Garden (your people, your skills and what they need from you). Close it without choosing and you stay on the Journey; it will ask again on a later visit.

You can change your mind whenever you like. Open the menu and look at the top of the Adventure Navigation section: the Start on: Garden / Journey switch flips your choice and saves it on the spot, without taking you anywhere. Press Start on: itself to reopen the full dialog, which also has a link to go there now.

Your starting point is remembered separately for each adventure. It applies the first time you come in during a session; after that, the menu's Journey and Garden entries take you wherever you ask. An adventure without a Garden has nothing to choose, so you always start on the Journey.

Map or List

The Journey has two views, switched with the Map / List control — at the bottom-left of the map, and at the top of the page in List view. The map is the designed layout you pan and zoom around; the list is a table of every milestone grouped under its chapter, with its level, rewards and status on one row. Whichever you used last is the one you get next time in that adventure. Both are covered in The Journey Map.

The Menu and the Taskbar

The bar along the bottom of the screen holds the yellow OPTIONS button. Press it — or Menu in the top-left corner — and the menu opens; the button then reads CLOSE. Some adventures switch the bottom bar off to give the content the whole screen; there, the Menu button in the top-left corner is your way in.

The menu's Adventure Navigation section lists every part of the adventure you can visit: the Journey, your Journal, Achievements, the Item Shop and Backpack, Guilds, the Garden and Tasks, the Leaderboard, Magic Code, the Wall, Posts, Resources, Secrets and Clues, the Schedule and Speakers, and My Requests. You only see the ones your adventure actually uses, and your organization may have renamed some of them. Adventures takes you back to your list of adventures, unless your platform sends everyone straight to one. GMs also see Admin Tools and Add Mechanics sections.

While the menu is open, a row of quick links appears just above the taskbar. Which ones you get depends on the adventure, but they can include:

Guided Tours

Many screens come with a short guided tour — the Journey, milestones and challenges, the Garden, Tasks, the Item Shop, the Leaderboard, the Wall, your Journal and your list of adventures among them. A tour starts by itself the first time you open its screen. Once you've started or skipped it, it won't start on its own again: the Journey's tour is remembered once for each adventure, and every other tour once for your account.

To replay a tour, press the ? in the top-right corner. It appears on any screen that has a tour, and nowhere else.

Posts and Resources

Two menu entries are for reading rather than playing. Posts are articles and notices from your GM; Resources are reference material — articles, and files or links to download. Open one and it reads like a page, with a Download button when there's a file behind it. They don't sit on the Journey and don't count toward your progress.

Some are held back the way milestones are: until you reach a level, until a date, or unless you're on a particular path. Those either stay out of the list until then or tell you why when you open them.
