The Tabi Editor

A Tabi is a chapter of the journey. It's either a tile on the map that opens onto a group of milestones, or a collectable picture players assemble from pieces — never both. The Tabi editor is where you set up every part of one.

Opening It

Go to Manage Content and open the Tabis tab. Add Tabi creates a new one, and each row's Edit Tabi opens the editor. The row also has Prerequisites, Evolving Scene (straight to the Scene Builder) and Trash. When the adventure has no Tabis yet, the Journey Builder's Active Tabis menu and the empty journey both link to creating one.

A brand-new Tabi shows only its settings: prerequisites, milestones, pieces and the scene all attach to a Tabi that exists, so give it a name and press Create Tabi first. After that the editor's tabs are Settings, Prerequisites, Milestones, Pieces and Scene, and Update Tabi saves the settings.

Settings

Position and size aren't typed in here. Drag the Tabi into place in the Journey Builder, and drag its edges there (or its frame in the Scene Builder) to size it. The editor shows where it currently sits.

Prerequisites

Tick other Tabis and this one stays locked until every ticked Tabi is finished; leave them all unticked and it's open from the start. Press Save prerequisites — this section saves on its own. A player who opens a locked chapter sees which chapters to finish first, and the List view names them under the chapter's heading.

Prerequisites here are between Tabis. For anything finer — a level, an achievement, a particular milestone — gate the milestones themselves with Conditions.

Milestones

This tab lists what's filed under the Tabi, with each milestone's level, type and status, and a Remove button to take one out. Add an existing milestone offers any milestone that isn't in a Tabi yet; New milestone and New challenge start fresh ones. You can also choose the Tabi from the Tabi dropdown on a milestone's own Mechanics tab.

A player finishes the Tabi by finishing its milestones. What counts:

Filed milestones appear inside the Tabi's tile, not loose on the map. That's why a Tabi that holds milestones always stays on the Base depth, where players can click it: file a milestone into a Tabi sitting in the background and the Tabi moves back to Base, with a message saying so. For the same reason, don't file milestones into a Tabi set to No — collected from pieces — it has no tile on the map to open them from.

The Chapter's Badge

When a player opens a chapter, it starts with a progress bar: the milestones they've finished out of the chapter's total. To point that bar at a badge, create an achievement with a Complete This Tabi condition for this Tabi. The bar then reads Working towards with the achievement's name and artwork, and Stage complete when they get there, while the achievement itself is awarded by its condition. Without one, the bar reads Progress towards this stage. See Achievements, Paths & Ranks.

Pieces

A collectable Tabi is built from pieces: items of the Tabi Piece type that point at this Tabi. New piece opens the item editor — set the type to Tabi Piece and choose this Tabi. Pieces can be sold in the Item Shop, where each is labelled as part of its Tabi, or handed out as rewards. Once there are pieces, Arrange pieces opens the piece editor, where you drag, resize, rotate and stack them into the finished picture. Players see their collection on the Tabis page of the Item Shop section, and can click a piece they've collected to examine it. See Building an Item Shop Economy.

Scene

The Scene tab holds the Tabi's evolving artwork — the table of what grows, and when — with Open Scene Builder to place the art inside the Tabi's frame. That's covered in Evolving Tabis & the Scene Builder.
