A Tabi can carry artwork that changes as the player looking at it progresses: a lemonade stand at level 1, a food truck at level 3, a restaurant at level 5. Two players open the same chapter and see different pictures, each drawn from their own progress. This page covers authoring it.
The Idea: a Table
A scene is a table.
- Each row is one thing that evolves — "The building" — and the one condition it grows with, such as player level.
- Each step along the row is one value of that condition plus the artwork for it: Level 1 → a stand, Level 5 → a restaurant.
For each row, the player sees the artwork of the highest step they've reached. A step with no value set is always shown, which makes it the starting picture every new player sees. Rows are independent of each other, so an add-on — a sign that appears once a player has 10 Blooms — is simply a row with one step.
What a Row Can Grow With
- Player level
- Player XP
- This Tabi's completion %
- Whole journey completion %
- Milestones completed
- Achievements earned
- Tabis completed
- Items bought
- Guild level
- Guild members
- Blooms earned (all Skills)
- Blooms in one Skill — you pick the Skill once, on the row
- Blooms received from peers
- Blooms given to others
- A milestone is finished — each step names its own milestone
- A Tabi is finished — each step names its own Tabi
The guild conditions depend on teammates too, so a whole guild can watch one scene grow together. The two peer conditions count only the Blooms players chose to give each other — gifts and endorsements — not Blooms paid out by the adventure or awarded by staff. See Skills & Blooms.
Growing Gradually
On a numeric row, every step except the last has a Grow gradually checkbox. Tick it and the artwork fills in between that step's value and the next one, instead of appearing all at once: with steps at level 3 and level 5, a level-4 player sees it half drawn. Choose which way it fills — Up, Down, Left or Right.
Building the Table
Open the Tabi in the Tabi editor and go to its Scene tab, or press Evolving Scene on the Tabi's row in Manage Content. A scene is created the first time you open the Scene Builder; there's nothing to set up beforehand. Then:
- Add a row: name what evolves ("The building") and choose what it grows with.
- Fill in each step's value — a number, or the milestone or Tabi it waits for — and press Set art to choose its artwork.
- Press Next step to add the following step to the row.
Rows and steps save as you change them. Remove row deletes a whole row, and each step has its own remove button. In the Scene Builder, Edit the table opens the same table over the canvas.
The Scene Builder
The Scene Builder is where you place the artwork. Its canvas is the journey itself: the rest of the map — other Tabis, graphics, widgets and milestones — is drawn as fixed placeholders at their real positions, so you design against what will actually surround the scene. None of it can be changed from here; only this Tabi is yours to edit.
- The frame is the Tabi. All of a scene's artwork lives inside the Tabi's frame and is clipped to it, exactly as it is on the map and in the chapter's panel.
- Drag the label above the frame to move the Tabi on the journey, and drag an edge to resize it. Both change the real Tabi. Resizing doesn't move or scale the artwork; whatever falls past the new edge is clipped.
- Click a piece of artwork to select it, then drag it, resize it, or turn it with its rotate handle. The selection bar holds Artwork (swap the image), Send back and Bring forward with its layer number, Edit row and Remove.
- The toolbar has Edit the table, Find this Tabi, toggles for Journey (the placeholders), Tabi image and Ghost inactive, and Back to Tabis.
Artwork whose image can't be found shows a placeholder instead of vanishing, so you can select it and choose new artwork.
Preview as a Player
Your own account has probably reached none of your later steps, which would leave you placing art you can't see. The Preview as a player panel lets you set a pretend player's level, XP, this Tabi's %, journey %, guild level, guild members and milestones completed; with Ghost inactive on, the canvas ghosts whatever that player wouldn't see. The panel can be dragged out of the way by its header.
Scene Settings
Two settings in the same panel apply to the whole scene:
- Show on the journey map — No by default, which means the scene only appears inside the chapter's panel when a player opens it. Set it to Yes to draw the scene over the Tabi on the map as well.
- Whole-scene mood — None, or Fade when the player is away, which desaturates the whole scene the longer it's been since the player's last visit.
What Players See
When a player opens the chapter, the scene is shown full size, with a Next: line underneath naming what grows it next — "Reach level 5", for example. The scene stays hidden while the chapter is locked, so it can't give away what's inside. On the map, if you've turned it on, the scene sits over the Tabi's tile at the Tabi's depth. Staff see a scene as far as their own account has reached, not fully grown, so use the preview to check the later steps.
