Some Adventures measure more than what you've learned. They ask questions that build a picture of how you like to play, learn or work. That picture is your profile, and it fills in as you answer.
What a Profile Is
A profile is a scale made of several traits. The well-known HEXAD player-type profile, for example, measures Achiever, Socialiser, Philanthropist, Free Spirit, Player and Disruptor. Each answer you give adds points to one or more traits. Your headline is the top-scoring trait that's allowed to be a headline.
Answering the Questions
Profile questions are ordinary steps inside milestones, and they come in two shapes:
- Pick an answer — a question with several options. Sometimes you can pick more than one.
- Agree or disagree — a statement with a row of numbered buttons between two labels, such as "Strongly disagree" and "Strongly agree". Pick one and press Submit.
They might sit in a milestone of their own. They might also be woven into story milestones, so you answer them without noticing they're part of a profile. There are no right or wrong answers, so answer honestly. Each answer counts the moment you submit it, and your reading builds up as you go.
Your Result
When you reach a Profile Result step, you see your sheet for that profile:
- "You are most…" — your headline trait, what share of your points it holds, and what it means.
- A chart with every trait in the profile, including any you scored nothing on, so the shape is yours and comparable with anyone else's.
- The numbers behind it — traits measured, how many answers it rests on, and points in play.
- Your full mix — every trait ranked, with its score, its share and a description.
Some traits are marked Measured only. They're scored and charted but never announced as your headline (the HEXAD treats Player and Disruptor this way). You can score highest on one and still get a different headline, and the sheet says so. If none of a profile's traits can be a headline, you get your full mix with no single headline. If you reach the result before answering anything, it tells you nothing has been measured yet.
A trait can also come with an achievement, awarded when that trait is your headline.
What You Won't See
Your sheet never shows your answers back, and nothing shows how much each answer was worth. That stays on the server, so nobody can work the test to get the result they want.
Finding It Again
Your readings live in your Journal, on the Profiles tab, with one sheet per profile. The tab appears as soon as the Adventure measures something, even before you've answered. A reading belongs to the Adventure that measured it, so it isn't shown on My Account.
Taking It Again
Retakes are up to your GM, and they're off unless your GM switches them on for that profile. When they're allowed, your sheet has a Take it again button, but only if all the questions you answered for that profile sit in one milestone. Pressing it clears your answers and your current result for that profile, then takes you back to the milestone to answer again. It can't be undone. An achievement you already earned from your old headline stays.
Who Can See Your Reading
Other players can't. Your GM and the Adventure's other staff can: they can open your Journal, including its Profiles tab, and the Stats page shows how the group came out, including who got which headline.
